The initiative to establish the College of Shipbuilders under the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding (NUOS) received support from the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine, with the issuance of Order No. 157 on February 15, 2013.

As of May 18, 2020, according to Order No. 639 of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the institution is named "Separate structural unit "Professional College of Shipbuilders of the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding."

Educational activities at the college have been conducted since 2014.

The first graduation of junior specialists in the specialty of "Servicing of Software Systems and Complexes" took place in July 2017, and the specialty was successfully accredited the same year. Since then, over 85 junior specialists have been trained.

Foreign colleagues, especially from China, have shown interest in training specialists in computer and shipbuilding profiles due to the presence of highly qualified academic staff, modern laboratory and material-technical base, and years of cooperation experience at NUOS. This led to the approval of a specialized joint educational program for training junior specialists between the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding and the International Maritime College of Jiaoshan.

Since September 2020, the institution has been providing training for professional junior bachelors in the specialty of 122 "Computer Science" (Order of the Ministry of Education and Science dated December 19, 2019, No. 1015-l), with the first graduation taking place in June 2023.

In 2022, the specialty of 141 "Electric Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics" was licensed (Order of the Ministry of Education and Science dated July 4, 2022, No. 124-l). The first intake of students for professional higher education in this specialty took place in September 2023, with graduation scheduled for June 2026.

The college provides education for applicants of professional higher education with a daytime form of study based on complete general secondary education and an educational qualification level of "skilled worker."

The duration of study at the college is 8 months or 2 years and 10 months, depending on the chosen specialty.

Upon completion of studies and successful defense of the diploma thesis, graduates receive a diploma of state standard for the qualification of junior specialist (since 2023, professional junior bachelor). Additionally, during their studies, students may obtain a certificate of assignment of the worker qualification specified in the curriculum according to the samples approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

The majority of graduates successfully pass entrance exams and enroll in the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding for higher education at the bachelor's and master's levels in various specialties of the NUOS.

Such an approach contributes to the development of the material and technical base, methodological and scientific preparation of junior specialists, and the expansion of international relations. A continuous training path allows for education from complete secondary education at the Mykolaiv Maritime Lyceum named after M. Aleksandrov to master's level at NUOS, in line with the requirements of the Bologna Process.
